ORION Inspiring story: Introducing co-creation in fundamental life sciences
Genigma is one of the two citizen science projects that has received funding from the ORION Open Science project. The Genigma project, managed by CNAG-CRG, is developing a game to explore the genomic alterations in cancer cells. The idea of the game is the result of a collaboration between the scientific team and a group of citizens who have participated in co-creation events previous to the game development. Learn more about this project in our new "Inspiring stories" section on the ORION website.

Coffee, Cake and Open Science
If you had not heard of Open Science and wondered what it was, or wished there was an Open Science topic you knew more about, then the ORION Open Science Cafe on 4 November during Berlin Science Week was the perfect event.
For five hours we were digitally serving up a rolling series of twenty-minute micro-talks and activities about Open Science. Our audience could drop in and have a coffee while they got a quick snack of knowledge about how to make different aspects of research transparent, accessible, and usable for all. Some even stayed for the whole afternoon and went away as Open Science experts.

Gaming for change – ORION VACCINE Project
The UK recently lost its measles eradication status, leading to urgent calls for action and making vaccination an important and timely issue with the potential for far-reaching impact. Meanwhile, the current Covid-19 pandemic and the discovery of a vaccine has renewed interest in and fear of vaccinations. The novel ORION VACCINE project aims to create together with young people a digital game and engagement tool for engaging the public with the science behind vaccinations, infections and the immune system.

Event: Can public dialogue help inform research on disruptive technologies like genome editing?
Welcome to the online lauch event where we will share the findings of the ORION public dialogue on genome editing in fundamental research on 21 January 2021 at 14:00-16:00 CET. The objective of the public dialogue was to explore what challenges and opportunities the public sees concerning genome editing uses in fundamental research. The similarities and differences that exist across countries were also raised, as well as how research organisations should communicate and engage with society about this emerging technology in their research. Join the event to discuss with us how public dialogue can contribute to inform strategies and the wider responsible research and innovation global efforts.
