New ways to opening up life sciences research
Image
How can you establish cultural change? How do you implement and embed Open Science and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in your organisation? These are the questions that the ORION project aims to answer. From the start of the project in 2017, ORION has been exploring how to establish an open dialogue with society on relevant research topics, such as genome editing, and has been developing new ways and collaborations between researchers and the general public. The project is now entering its last year and will collect and showcase the good practises and lessons learned generated by all of the partners.

Has the strategic opening of science changed through the corona crisis?
Image
Again and again, crises have led to a cultural change. Often an acute threat has turned into sustainable progress. During the last months, the ways in which we conduct research, innovation and how we communicate science have changed so profoundly that it may well change the world forever. The ORION partner Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC), has asked its scientists about their views on open science practices and possible changes due to the corona crisis.

Inspiring the next generation of scientists
Image
If you think that building a sailing boat at a kindergarten in a small village of the South Moravian lowlands in Czech Republic is a nonsense, then you are wrong! It’s a part of the ORION partner JCMM’s EduSTEM - Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programme, which aims to inspire the future generation of researchers and innovators.

In short
Open science: the dimension of stakeholder engagement - webinar
Michela Bertero, CRG was the keynote speaker at a InSPIRES webinar on 14 May. She gave a brief historical background to Open Science, an overview of the current policies, activities and future steps.

New strategies for public engagement - webinar
The corona pandemic shows how crucial it is that scientists and other parts of the society work together. In order to achieve sustainable solutions to small and large societal challenges, we need to jointly create new knowledge. But how does that work in practice? Maria Hagardt, VA, gave a presentation of the ORION project's public engagement activities at the webinar on 3 June.

Are you the next ORION Open Science champion?
The ORION MOOC for Open Science in the Life Sciences is now available to follow at anytime. About ORION Open Science
The EU-funded ORION Open Science project aims to explore ways in which research performing and research funding organisations in life sciences and biomedicine can open up the way they fund, organise and do research. We will embed Open Science principles in the research process and involve citizens, policy makers and researchers in co-creation experiments, public dialogues, training and citizen science.

Find out more how you can get involved in the ORION project at our website. Don't miss to tune in for our Open Science Podcasts!
