ISCIII launches Prize for RRI in Health
Image
On 2 January 2020 the ORION partner Instituto de Salud Carlos III, ISCIII will launch a prize call to grant three prizes of 10,000 € to Health Research Institutes in Spain that have excelled in implementing the RRI principles. The aim of the prize is to recognise, encourage, promote and disseminate best RRI institutional practice developed by Research Institutions on Health.

SMOVE brings research into the classroom
Image
The dangerous life of the couch potato: People who spend too long sitting are at higher risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. In the citizen science project SMOVE, the ORION partner Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, MDC is joining forces with school children to research the relationship between environmental influences and sedentary behavior.

Why Everyone Should Care About Open Science

At the beginning of November 2019, the Berlin Science Week connected science communities with the general public. Luiza Bengtsson and Emma Harris from the ORION Training team at MDC held an Open Science workshop and discussed "Why everyone should care about open science".

Launch of the ORION Open Science MOOC 
Image
“What an exciting potential future for science!” commented one of the participants in the ORION MOOC for Open Science in Life Sciences, when discussing what they had learnt from the course. The ORION MOOC course ran for six weeks from October-November 2019 and was open for anyone interested in Open Science. A new MOOC will run again in early 2020.

ORION inspiring the Czech science scene

The ORION project was presented at the national KRECon 2019 (Knowledge, Research and Education) conference on 7-8 November in Prague. The conference reflected on the recent development of Open Science in the Czech Republic and was dedicated to one of the main topics of contemporary scholarly communication, the issue of Open Access to scientific information.

23 January - AEON: Would you like to live forever? Stockholm
Welcome to the opening seminar of the AEON Artwork installation at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm. The artwork by Emilia Tikka will be presented and showcased at the museum from January to March.

23 Jan & 8 Feb - Public dialogue on genome editing, Stockholm
What do the public think about genome editing? That’s what we hope to find out through our public dialogues on genome editing

11-12 March - Open Science Conference 2020, Berlin
The annual conference provides a unique forum for stakeholders to discuss the latest and future developments in Open Science. The ORION project will be showcased in a talk an a poster during the conference which is arranged by the Leibniz Research Alliance Open Science.

28-29 April 2020 - ORION 3rd Annual Meeting, Stockholm
The ORION consortium will gather in Stockholm to discuss ongoing and future project activities. 

5-9 July - ESOF 2020, Trieste
The ORION project will be involved in two sessions during the EuroScience Open Forum - ESOF in Trieste. The theme for ESOF 2020 is: “Freedom for science, science for freedom".

In short
Race for the cure, Bologna
ANT presented the Genigma Citizen Science project during the Race for the cure event on 22 September. The goal with the event was to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

Student Talent Program in Copenhagen
MDC held a training workshop in Open Science for students and researchers at Cophenhagen University on 4 October.

Open Day with Genigma Citizen Science
The general public had the opportunity to try and test the Genigma app prototype at the Open Day in Barcelona Biomedical Research Park on 5 October. 

Open Science competition
The winning projects from the regional student competition on local societal challenges in Czech Republic was presented in a series of seminars during autumn. The first seminar was held on 8 October at JCMM in Brno. 

Open Science - What’s in it for me?
Open Science concepts and tools have the potential to transform the current scientific system. Researchers, funders and grants office personnel attended the interactive workshop in Stockholm on 9 October

Open Science and your research
MDC held a much appreciated workshop on Open Science for PhD students at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge on 10 October. 

​Open Science Student competition 
The winning projects from the regional student competition were showcased during a seminar on "Advanced ceramics and glass for medical applications" in Brno on 4-5 November.
