Researchers want to enhance their career prospects by publishing in well-regarded journals, building collaborative partnerships, acquiring funding, and creating innovative projects. It is still anongoing debate, whether aspects of Open Science such as Open Access, Open Data, and Public Engagement can provide this enhancement. The current policy push towards Open Science, such as mandatory publishing in Open Access journals required by growing number of funding agencies, often clashes with the traditional evaluation strategies for academic excellence.

This workshop will help researchers explore whether Open Science could benefit their careers. In addition, they can raise questions and concerns about the challenges of Open Science, exchange ideas about successful strategies, and get practical, personalised support from the trainers. In practice: after a short round of impulse talks delivered by a panel of experts on different aspects of Open Science, the participants will work on professional dilemmas scenarios in a world café setting.

Speakers are:

  • Luiza Bengtsson, Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine
  • Lidia Borrell-Damian, European University Association
  • Isabelle Halleux, Université de Liège
  • Alexander Hasgall, EUA Council for Doctoral Education
  • Gareth O'Neill - EURODOC (European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers)

The session is arranged in collaboration with EUA, Council for Doctoral Education. Find out more about the ORION project training activities here.

Our session will take place on 12 July at 10:15-11:30 and is open for all participants at ESOF 2018 in Toulouse. No preregistration is needed for our sessions. For more information about the ESOF 2018 and how to register, please have a look at the forum website.
