Denmark allows groups of 50 and reopens pools and gyms
Lalandia, Denmark's biggest water park in Billund, will open on Monday.

Denmark has raised the maximum number of people allowed to gather to 50, and will allow fitness centres and swimming pools to reopen, in the next stage of its reopening.

On Sunday night, Denmark's health ministry issued a notice increasing the maximum allowed group from the more restrictive 10.

For certain sit-down events, such as weddings, stadium games, and companies' annual general meetings held in conference centres, the government has said it may even allow groups as large as 500, so long as they follow as yet unpublished guidelines.

On July 8th, Denmark is set to allow groups as large as 100 people, and on August 8th, the number will increase to 200.

The reopening of gyms and swimming pools follows an agreement struck by Denmark's political parties on Saturday evening over the so-called 'phase 3' of the country's reopening.

"A lot of people out there have been missing their sports and group hobbies. Luckily, we're now in a position where the infection risk is so under control, that we can give them permission to reopen," said Joy Mogensen, Denmark's culture minister.

On Sunday, Denmark's government released a new set of guidelines for outdoor sport and indoor sports and other activities, which opened the way for amateur football and handball teams to again play competitively.

Troels Rasmussen, Director General of DGI, Denmark's amateur sports clubs association, welcomed the new rules.

"You could call it a more or less full reopening of sports, because all types of activity are allowed," he said. "Of course, in orderly conditions and with proper regard for the guidelines."

Under the guidelines, participants should pay extra attention to washing their hands and keeping their distance, and in sports which involve 'heavy exhalation', players should try to keep at least two metres away from one another.

If possible, participants should bring their own equipment. Where this is not possible (for example with the balls used in handball), the equipment should be washed frequently.

Swimming pools should limit the number of swimmers so that each can have a minimum of four square metres of water to themselves.

In gyms and other indoor sports facilities, each person should have at least four metres square of space available.

Weight-lifting machines and other gym equipment should be wiped down with alcohol gel between each use.

Dance schools are advised to have a gap of at least 10 minutes between classes for cleaning, and to ensure two square metres of space between each dancing pair.

Yoga studios are asked not to provide yoga mats, requiring instead that aspiring yogis bring their own.

Those running choir practices must ensure at least two metres' distance between each singer. People playing other music should avoid sharing instruments.
