Exploring research in everyday life the focus of this year’s Researchers’ Night in Sweden

From 23-28 September, the ForskarFredag science festival, part of European Researchers’ Night, is hosting a week of events that create opportunities for dialogue between researchers and the public, allowing thousands of people to discover how research works and how fun, exciting, and relevant it can be. Free events are being held in 24 locations across the whole of Sweden. In addition, over 250 Swedish school classes have the exciting opportunity to host a researcher in their classroom as part of the Borrow a Researcher initiative..

Citizen science project explores what school graffiti can teach us about democracy
School walls are covered with signs, posters, and artwork, but who are these messages aimed at, who created them, and how do they reflect school democratic values? This autumn, researchers and pupils across Sweden will be exploring these questions together in a citizen science project called ‘Voices of the Walls: linguistic and visual messages in schools’. The mass experiment is part of the annual ForskarFredag science festival, European Researchers’ Night in Sweden. Read more.

LOESS unveils new database of soil education case studies
Are you looking for innovative and inspiring resources for soil education? The LOESS soil health project has just launched an online database of case studies featuring a diverse range of soil education resources, practices and initiatives from 15 European countries. The case studies offer practical examples for educators, covering five educational levels: primary, secondary, higher education, vocational training, as well as activities for the general public. CitizAir air pollution visualisation tool now launched
The CitizAir project has launched an app allowing Stockholm residents to view real-time air quality data. The app, available in both Swedish and English, can be downloaded on the App Store, and includes a game called "Clean the Stockholm Air." Members of the public are now testing the tool at events, such as European Researchers' Night in Stockholm. Everything developed within CitizAir will be openly published and adaptable for use in other cities globally. Read more.

Share your experiences with the European Research Area
The EU INSPIRING ERA project is inviting stakeholders to share their experiences, insights and challenges in implementing the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda. By collecting feedback through a questionnaire, the project aims to identify gaps in ERA policy areas and develop recommendations for policy makers. Read more.

ERA Conference 2024: a vision for the future of R&I in Europe
Over 400 attendees gathered in person at the European Commission's ERA Conference in Brussels held on 18–19 September. In addition, almost 400 watched the livestream of the conference on day one, with a further 630 on day two. Organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the EU INSPIRING ERA project, the conference brought together a diverse array of European and national stakeholders from across Europe to collectively shape the future trajectory of European research and innovation policies. Levelling up public engagement in the EU
Public & Science is contributing as a national expert in the European Commission’s Mutual Learning Exercise focusing on Public Engagement in Research & Innovation. National representatives and experts from the eight participating countries gathered in The Hague on 23–24 September to learn more about existing frameworks for public engagement, share experiences and to discuss the need for national policies.
