ORION Open Science MOOC coming soon!

This brand new Open Science online course will help researchers to share their science with the world! Easily digestible modules will explore different aspects of Open Science and allow researchers to gain a certificate in Open Science. The MOOC will start on 21 October.

ORION Novel co-creation initiative

Don't miss the deadline to submit your proposal for a novel co-creation initiative to open up research in life sciences and biomedicine. This new funding call will provide funding of up to 100,000€ for a project that brings together a variety of participants from across a range of sectors to co-create a new project or product based around life sciences research. Be as imaginative and creative as possible. The deadline for application is 30 September.

What do the public think about genome editing?

That’s what we hope to find out through a series of public dialogues on genome editing in the ORION partnering countries Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and the UK. The aim with the public dialogues is to discuss the risks and opportunities of disruptive technologies and identify any concerns the public might have

Involving patients in game design
Image
The Genigma citizen science project has iniated a collaboration with ORION partner Fondazione ANT in order to involve patients, family members and healthcare professionals in the design phase of the app. The aim is to adapt the game and related scientific information to their interests and needs. A prototype of the game will be showcased in October.

22 September - Race for the cure, Bologna
ANT will present the Genigma project during the Race for the cure  event which is dedicated to raising funds for the fight against breast cancer.

4 October - Talent Program, Copenhagen
MDC will hold a training workshop in Open Science for students and researchers at Cophenhagen University. 

5 October - PRBB Open day, Barcelona
Come and test the Genigma app prototype at the Open Day in Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. Join the fun and become a Genome Explorer!

8 October - Open Science Student competition seminar, Brno
The winning projects from the regional student competition on local societal challenges will be presented in a series of seminars during autumn.

9 October - Open Science - What’s in it for me?, Stockholm
Open Science concepts and tools have the potential to transform the current scientific system. Join this interactive workshop in Stockholm to find out how.

10 October - Open Science workshop at Babraham Institute, Cambridge
Welcome to a workshop on Open Science for PhD students at the Babraham Institute.

From ideas to real life projects 
The ORION partners gathered at CEITEC for the 2nd Annual meeting on 6-7 May to share and exchange knowledge and experience from project activities and trainings conducted during the first two years of the project.

Open Science Training in Ukraine
How can you and your work benefit from the Open Science movement? This was discussed at the "Open Science and your research" workshop run by the MDC at the Summer School in Ivano-Frankivsk in July.

Summer Course on RRI in Spain
The ORION partner Instituto Salud Carlos III, ISCIII, held a summercourse on RRI in Spain and how to implement it in health research iInstitutes at the beginning of July.

Open Science at all costs? Sweden
Open Science is about making research more accessible to society. But how do we get there and what obstacles are in the way? This was discussed in a seminar arranged by VA (Public & Science) at the Almedalen Political Week in Visby.

Open Science principles and practices at European life sciences institute
The ORION partner CEITEC did a poster presentation on: Study on Open Science: the general state of the play in Open Science principles and practices at European life sciences institute during the 17th International conference on scienctometrics and infometrics on 2-5 September in Rome.

Lessons learned from a year of Open Science Training
The ORION training team shared lessons learned from the ORION Open Science trainings for researchers, funders, and research managers conducted across Europe at the Open Science FAIR on 16 September in Porto, Portugal.

The ORION project was presented at the 1st Annual CEITEC Postdoc Retreat on 16-17 September in Brno, Czech Republic.

About ORION Open Science
The EU-funded ORION Open Science project aims to explore ways in which research performing and research funding organisations in life sciences and biomedicine can open up the way they fund, organise and do research. We will embed Open Science principles in the research process and involve citizens, policy makers and researchers in co-creation experiments, public dialogues, training and citizen science.
