Hoppet is an award-winning building (Swedish Design Awards 2022) and preschool built in Gothenburg in connection to Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary in 2021, and it is also Sweden’s first fossil-free construction project.

The main part of the building is made from wood, and the foundation is made out of recycled glass as an alternative to concrete. The climate impact of constructing Hoppet is roughly 70% less than a conventionally built preschool.

The name Hoppet means “hope” or “leap”, and that is exactly what the City of Gothenburg is hopeing that the project will achieve – a leap in creating better conditions for fossil-free constructions. Every choice made in the design process has been guided by climate impact and sustainability, and creative architectural solutions have been used to achieve the result.

The building is designed by LINK Arkitektur with Derome as the contractor.

This new international design event highlights and builds knowledge about design, focusing on sustainability, collaboration, development and innovation. During four days, Southern Sweden Design Days opens the doors to the creative and dynamic southern Swedish design scene, and the city of Malmö will be filled with exhibitions, networking events and festivities in more than 60 different locations.

All program activities are related to this year’s theme: ‘Proximitiy’. The theme calls for interpretations reflecting on the notion of being close – the connection between people, cities, countries, species; and professions. This part of Sweden is characterized by a rebellious as well as collaborative spirit and is buzzing with curiosity and creativity.
Southern Sweden Design Days is organized by Form/Design Center – the main venue for architecture, design and crafts in southern Sweden.
