Stockings of discarded fishing nets, wooden tables planed by hand, a streetwear brand that hires Syrian refugees and designer furniture that still feels modern after more than 60 years in production. In the April edition of FORM Magazine the readers are presented to the Swedish Design Movement manifesto and to eight design companies who in various ways are pushing the development forward, towards a sustainable transition.

Wooden high-rise buildings have become reality. So have design projects taking on a life-cycle perspective working with a no-waste principle, and public spaces or even towns that take on the challenges of sustainable development for all citizens. The exhibition presents 40 projects, in various scales and from all over Sweden. They have been selected to visualise how architecture, design and urbanism can help reduce the climate impact of buildings and products. The exhibition is offered for international shows via Sharing Sweden, but is currently also on display in Swedish at Form/Design Center in Malmö, where it´s shown from 17 April to  15 August.

After our March edition of the newsletter we were contacted by the Linköping based company Just Wood with a corky news tip. Corky means funny, lively or bubbly, and cork is also one of the main materials in a new folk costume – made out of wood. This piece of art is the result of a material exploration project where the challenge was to create a folk costume entirely in wood, with many different types of wooden materials. Besides cork, other materials in the costume are tencel, paper yarn, birch plywood, birch root and resin (amber). The idea behind the costume is also to make a statement and strike a blow for wood in a new way. The result is beautiful – thanks for the inspiration Stina Gunnarsson!
